Galen came home from touring with Sara Marreiros with a great present for me: an artist-made colouring book from Washington!
I really like colouring, but it’s hard to find any colouring books for adults. I’ve coloured more than my fair share of pornographic cartoon placemats, believe me, and other options are limited. I just don’t have the same appetite for ballerinas and bland-cute animals that I did when I measured my age in single digits.
So this is a delight. Galen is a bringer of wonders. This fabulous volume by Steeb Russell has a goofy-subversive title that melts my heart, awesome paper that is glossy yet safe for pencil crayons, and an endless parade of squirrels knitting scarves and kids singing karaoke while dressed like crocodiles.
I’ve often thought artists should make colouring books, but I can’t ever remember seeing art so perfectly suited to colouring. Monsters for peace!

Do you know me? Do you have a fridge? Be prepared to receive a sample of my finest colouring.
Steeb Russell has a gallery and no e-commerce on his website, but I bet he would sell you stuff if you emailed him. Colour This Book was $10 at a record shop in Anacortes, and worth every penny.
