I am more likely to enjoy a band or musician if they post a lot of mp3s on their website—this has come up several times in conversations lately. I get a better feel for the music, I appreciate the convenience of free online music, and I get this unspecified warm feeling when artists trust me enough to share their tunes.
Paul Mowbray is, I’d say, the local musician who gives me the most of this warm feeling—he really gets it about music on the web. I help him with his website sometimes, and he says things like, “If my guitar students want to put my songs on their iPods and give them to their friends, that’s good for me, right? That’s more people who might come out to a show, or buy a CD.” He even goes one further and posts guitar tabs for his songs, so you can learn to play them yourself!
So, I’m delighted that Paul has a new website for his collaborations with violinist Tracy Mills: Mowbray and Mills. Both are accomplished musicians, avid songwriters, nice people, and into offering mp3s so you can find out more about their creative acoustic compositions. Here’s a start:
Totally unrelated to your current post… I just wanted to let you know that I knitting your viking chicken hat, and it came out great! Thanks for posting the pattern. You can see it on my blog – yarnspin.blogspot.com. Happy New Year!
