Aloha and Ahoy!

The Make is going to be huge

The Make poster

Galen and I got our tickets to The Make art show this week—they are a steal! Twenty-five dollars gets you entry to the opening night party (with serious secret musical guest), a book, and a DVD.

With everything from a massive collaborative art installation (built at the show, for the show), huge opening and closing parties, 2 dedicated gallery floors, an in-house art store, panel discussions and community forums, and a workshop day, the week of January 20th-28th is going to be nuts. theMAKE’s never-before-used-as-a-venue location (at the corner of Hillside and Government Streets on Victoria’s outskirts) will be transformed from an industrial workspace into a living, breathing, art-creature.

The list of contributors includes lots of artists that you might recognize even if, like me, you have only a passing aquaintance with Victoria’s art scene.

Shea Moir and Charlotte Campbell, whose screenprinted paintings are always up at Fantastico Caffe on Cook Street. Luke Ramsay, who has ink drawings up at Habit Coffee right now. B. A. Lampman, who I know from the old Blue Pine album cover and assorted fabulous notecards. Colin MacRae of the killer metal wall sculptures at The Mint, Mo:Lé, etc. Hank Pine of the several talents and costumes.

I’m excited!
